If you’re moving to Yarraville Place from just about anywhere in Melbourne’s west, chances are you’ve already heard of Mosey and its passionate team of green thumbs. Located in the inviting Yarraville Village, Mosey Store is run by owner Jan Margarson and her second-in-command, Robyn.
Established in 2012, the store mainly specialised in handmade hanging moss balls, pottery and limited plants, Mosey has since been a mainstay of Yarraville Village as the surrounding area has grown and evolved around it over the past seven years. Growing beyond its initial offering of hand-made goods, Mosey responded to its customers’ desires for more plants and botanical knowledge.
“ We found more and more customers were coming in and asking us for plant recommendations and plant care, so we responded to our customers’ needs and have since evolved into a destination store in Yarraville – we’ve at least doubled in size since we first opened seven years ago.
“ We serve many locals that we know by name, however we also find that people travel from as far as Bendigo, Geelong and the eastern suburbs to get to us because they love our knowledge and passion.
“ We spend a lot of time with customers, we like to make sure the plant we’re selling will suit their space, location and climate,” said Robyn, who has been with the business since it opened.
Thriving amongst a tight-knit network of local shop owners, Mosey also contributes meaningfully to the community, something its owner Jan is incredibly passionate about. Jan regularly donates to local organisations that are in need of funding, including local schools, committees or sporting clubs in the area.
“ We love knowing that we’re making a difference where we can, and therefore we work really hard to change our distribution list each year to ensure we’re supporting as many local businesses and organisations as we can,“ Robyn said.
The team at Mosey believe Yarraville Village’s small-town feel is what sets it apart. “ You’ll walk out of the store and a total stranger will smile at you and say good morning, Yarraville is a very unique and friendly place,” Robyn said.
Recently, Robyn and the team worked with ID_Land on the launch of Yarraville Place, with eight plants still on display in the sales suite, reflecting the desire of ID_Land to support local Yarraville businesses and strengthen ties with the local community.
The team at Mosey are available to be the first port of call for Yarraville Place purchasers seeking out indoor plants to decorate their new homes. For more information and to get in touch with Mosey, visit https://mosey.com.au/
